6 – 8 November designer-project manager Arvo Pärenson participated in the international conference “The Usability Ecosystem” in the Centre for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation in Tampa, Florida. The Centre of Excellence in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation (CEHPR) was represented by a display that introduced the centre and its designs for the hands’ mud bath and the vibroacoustic bed.

From 29 September – 4 October Rome was host to the annual conference on ESMAC gait analysis. This time the conference took place in cooperation with the Italian Society of Gait Analysis. The centre’s employees Mari Alvela, Kadri Englas and Priit Eelmäe participated in the conference.

26 – 28 September another rehabilitation-themed fair, the biggest of its kind in Europe, took place in Düsseldorf. The rehabilitation field of the CEHPR was represented by Priit Eelmäe.

18 – 19 September the CEHPR employees Hele Leek-Ambur and Talis Vare participated in the international conference Baltic Dynamic 2014 in Tartu.

8 – 11 September CEHPR employees Varje-Riin Tuulik-Leisi and Talis Vare participated in the international balneology conference MinWat 2014 in Karlovy Vary (the Czech Republic).

2 – 4 September 2014 there was another international conference of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) in Maastricht. The centre’s employees Riina Mõim, Vaike Kabel, Kadri Englas and Priit Eelmäe participated in the conference.

In September Galina Kapanen gave a presentation at an international conference in Ferrara, Italy: Kapanen, Galina; Terasmaa, Jaanus; Marzecova, Agata; Rautam, Sander. (2014). A comparative geochemical characterization of curative mud in major Estonian deposits.

26 – 30 August a delegation of the CEHPR, including the Head of Mud Products Development Silver Saarik and the Director of the CEHPR Talis Vare, were in Tjumen, Russia.

On 15 August the Centre of Excellence in Health Promotion and Rehabilitation participated in the summer seminar “A collective experience educates – interesting medical cases” organized by the Estonian Society of PRM Doctors. The centre’s research and product development were introduced by its Head of Mud Products Development Silver Saarik, rehabilitation doctor Varje-Riin Tuulik Leisi and designer-project manager Arvo Pärenson.

In July Agata Marzecova visited XRF specialist Dr John Boyle, who works at the University of Liverpool (Environmental Magnetics Laboratory, Department of Geography and Planning). The aim of the visit was to improve methodological approaches in analysing organically rich curative muds and to discuss calibration curves. This was followed by the analysis of already measured data and the application of new calibration curves.

On 2 July Varje-Riin Tuulik Leisi gave a presentation at the Estonian Society of PRM Doctors’ meeting in Tallinn.

2 – 6 June Hele Leek-Ambur and Talis Vare participated with a presentation in the international conference “Safe Community” in Harstad, Norway.

28 May – 8 June Priit Eelmäe and Kadri Englas participated in the international rehabilitation conference “8th World Congress of International Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine” in Mexico.

20 – 26 April 2014 Siiri Siimenson participated in an international hand surgery conference and the following training course/conference “6th International Tetrahand Surgery Course 2014” in Notwill, Switzerland.

8 – 12 April Ülle Kruus, Vaike Kabel, Ott Vanem, Mari-Liis Ööpik, Kadri Englas and Priit Eelmäe participated in the world’s leading neurorehabilitation conference “8th World Congress for NeuroRehabilitation” in Istanbul, Turkey. The theme of the conference was “Towards New Horizons in NeuroRehabilitation”.

9 – 11 April 2014 designer-project manager Arvo Pärenson participated in an international conference/fair in Milan.

26 – 28 March 2014 designer-project manager Arvo Pärenson participated in the international seminar “Future Design” in Kuopio Academy of Design, Finland. Different presentations highlighted cooperation possibilities with technology parks and laboratories and stressed the importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in modern product design. Agreements of cooperation and information exchange were made.

6 – 7 March Dr Vaike Kabel and physiotherapist Mari-Liis Ööpik participated in the international conference/symposium “Holistic Neurorehabilitation after Traumatic Brain Injury“ in Käpülä Rehabilitation Centre, Finland.

15 – 17 January Mari Alvela and Margot Pintson participated in a meeting of Nordic Vicon Users Group in Denmark at Odense University Hospital/University of Southern Denmark. The conference was directed at increasing the competence in motion and gait analysis, primarily from the aspect of using wireless EMG.
